Community Support Groups

Community Support Groups are Newcomer’s Group and Buddy’s Group.

Buddy’s Group is a duration of 10 weeks with 3 different languages, English, Cantonese and Mandarin. We are organizing this group for people who are over 50 years old. The purpose of this group is to provide useful information and resources for participants to prepare for their retirement and encourage them with active and healthy living lives after retirement. Through our Buddy’s Group, participants will learn about commonly asked services and benefits such as OAS and CPP, Healthy diets and living styles, Basic knowledge of smart phones and computer as well as Joining active exercise workshops such as stretching and playing ping-pong.

Newcomer’s Group, no matter you move from other provinces or other countries, this groups is suitable for you. This group will run 10 weeks in duration. The tentative start date will be Oct 20th Friday(5:30pm-7pm), the first introduction. More detail schedules will update once it is available.

We are planning to have this group in three different languages, Cantonese, Mandarin, English providing this group to clients who speak different languages. The topics that will include in this group are Services from Provincial and Federal governments such as transportations, Alberta Healthcare, Registry, etc., Job Searching Tips and information, Employment Insurance and Immigration related questions.

We will invite relevant and professional guest speakers for some of the topics above and want to provide some educational and informational knowledge to participants. By participating in this group, we also want participants to learn from the content and better integrate into local and Canadian lives without language and cultural barriers.

Dates:

Buddy’s Group, first date Oct 19 10am-11:30am every Thursday for 10 weeks;
Newcomer’s Group, first date Oct 20 5:30pm-7pm every Friday, tentatively
